Exceeded maximum login attempts?

#1 Post by Sephiroth »

Alright, I got to the office this morning and cleared my FF cache, then showed up here. I logged in using my name and correct password, and was told I had exceeded my max login attempts. I then had to retype my name and password, and do the Captcha thing. Logged right in after that. I am posting this for two reasons. One is that it may just be a nuisance bug and I don't mind. The other is that maybe somebody is trying to gain access to my account, so if this account suddenly starts posting spam, it isn't the real me! I despise spam as much as the next guy (or gal) and don't want anybody thinking I'm a spammer if I wind up hacked.

This points to different forum , but it might apply to you.

Unfortunately it seems that several phpbb based forums have been attacked in the same manner which involves a bot persistently trying to login to member's accounts. The forum software catches this and after 3 attempts prompts with the challenge question.

This happened to me on 12-28-2010. I mentioned it to Absent Minded that morning in case someone else had the same problem. At least I know I am not the only one.

Noticed this on my account this morning as well and changed the password just to be sure.

This bot is nothing to worry about. My four-letter-english-dictionary password survived just fine.
I use Debian, therefore I am.
