A tabbed or expandable button in signature to show:

each Debian users' (say):

1. Hardware via inxi or otherwise
2. Apps by repo
3. Apps by non repo (debian, compiled)
4. Apps on wine
5. Debian version
6. etc (only important stuff) :)

It shall be less than 100kb, say if 1000 fill it, total will be less than 100mb on forum server.

It may tend to promote the adaptability of Debian, and its success :!:

And who's going to code it, and integrate it into the forum?

IMO, those who feel like sharing that type of information in their signatures already do it, without any need for it to be coded into the forum.

Using open source tools, its not a rocket science OR is it :?: It shouldn't take much time. 8)

Well kindly cross-check: there is a limit, just had to push it in (e.g. Can you put inxi -F there :?: ). :) And really wanted to add more. The information must be resourceful, understandable, and of-course opensource :| . After all, it is claimed that Debian is a Universal OS, proof comes from USER EXPERIENCES/CLAIMS. :)

2. Purpose is: simply it shall be of help to new entrants in debian/linux or some already existing.

Maybe an addition to auto-insert emoticons randomly through each post would be helpful too, for all of those who forget or don't want to.

Personally, I don't care to post that much information about my systems in the signature of every post that I write, and I would prefer not to have to scroll past that much information about your system, over and over and over, in every thread in which you post.

That's why I turn signatures off in my forum preferences. Sometimes you can't tell the troubleshooting info from the signatures!

It's too bad that someone would have to turn off everyone's signatures just because a few people insist on taking up so much space with theirs.

The point was NOT TO ALTER THE SIGNATURE AREA .... but:

To have a button or tab to access this additional info, nothing more, nothing complicated. Nobody is forced to see it, until the tab or button is invoked.

One advantage shall be like: the scanner 2400 works, but @ colour mode and 75dpi doesnt performs.

Another: a compatible hp printer, it had issues. The other one ran perfect. Both ran, but run-time performance was different. :|

Many times I try to find a solution for a problem that I have and the searching gets me to a linux user posting something like "in the machine that you can see in my signature ..." and of course you never know if that machine in his signature is the same machine he had when he posted.

Why should ever be a description of my machine in my signature? What is the point? In the 95% of a users posts the signature would be useless...

Hi Yobo

This has to be along the signature, NOT INSIDE SIGNATURE. :)

This is planned to be a contribution to open source

Judging from the responses in this thread so far, it doesn't look like this forum's users like your idea, so you're probably not going to find anyone here who will do the work to program it for you.

Maybe you'd like to contact the makers of this forum's phpBB software, and see if they'd like to implement your idea as a new forum feature in their software.

GUI making softwares are very advanced these days. There shouldnt be any need to program/code. :)
vbrummond wrote:I also think if users wish to add this information they already can.

It is limited to 255 characters :!:

Its just a suggestion, the only intent is to benefit the opensource, nothing more.
