Is it possible to delete my account here?

Have something to say about forums.debian.net itself?

Is it possible to delete my account here?

Postby fixles » 2012-12-07 17:41

After the "Help" I've received on this forum I wont be using debian or these forums again. Is there a way I can delete my account? Or if an admin see's this post please delete my account.

Thanks.

The most short answer: No.

We could discuss in long detail if it is possible in general (probably is) and what would be better this way or that way, but it is very unusual.
I know the feeling, i had it more than once. But a few weeks later it (often) doesn't matter anymore.

I am just a user, so i might be wrong (this question should rather be answered by someone with the power to do it - or not do it).

You could send an email to:
team@forums.debian.net
or go to the IRC channel and ask there:
Server: irc.oftc.net
Channel: #debian-forums

It is not easy to get banned here, so the best you can do is to go to "user control panel" set a fake email-address and a gibberish password you can't remember. childish? Perhaps. Does it make one feel better? Yes, it does :-)

take it easy. have fun.

btw:
Shall we make a contest? I will guess what the next posts will look like? If i am right i get a new PC ? Deal?
(randicus, your turn. waiting for your wisdom).

Oh? No new PC for me. Damn...

I have thought about it for a bit. I know exactly one forum where the admin will happily ban you and delete your posts and delete your account.
The reason is their rules: "We will never ban anyone". "We will not delete posts"
Yeah, not easy for mortals, but it makes perfect sense once you have seen the light.

No.
Your account must remain (displayed prominently on a spike at the crossraods) as a warning to others ...

I do not have such an ability I am sorry to say. But perhaps I might if I spin around three times and make a wish for it. Want to try it with me?

No?

Well, go petition those that do have that happy power. Anyway I am just trolling. Have a day. :)

If the OP is still around, the best way to be done with the site is to remove it from your browser favorites and never come back.

Edit: Doesn't always work, though.

Says the one who happily bans and deletes all posts. What was that again? A bash thread? I can't remember.

We see:
It can be done.
But at most forums it won't be done.

You sure got humour.

I have multiple accounts. ( I forgot I had one earlier ) Can they be merged or have one tranfered to the new user name. (I am trying to clean up an email address so I can use it for someone else.)
Hey, at least it is easier than the alternative.

Generally speaking, there is no easy way to do that, as it requires to manipulate a lot of tables of the database.

Furthermore, it may compromise the topic consistency (try to image that some useful replies will go a way and this does not make sense) so I do not believe the phpBB (and other forum packages) developers will implement this function.
