I clean the birthday bots every day but since I am utc -5 it hasn't changed for me yet.
Please don't post links to spammer accounts, it only helps them.

What to do? They got no posts, so there is nothing to report.
If you look at them everyday i guess it is pointless to mention it. Yes?

Ok, got you. Thanks
And sorry for it. I thought it might help, but i was wrong.
I for one wouldn't be keen on doing all that. Thanks for it. btw.

Re: spammers
Just banning the spammers by IP address is not helpful for those of us using tor to access the forums while at work... and is completely pointless anyway...

Re: spammers
can you describe why banning tor exit node ip 's is useless?
or how we could better utilize our time removing birthday bot accounts.
is spam here still outta control?

Re: spammers
A tor exit node can be (ab)used by many web users, it can be used by spammers but also by legitimate members. Spammers will always be a problem without good preventative measures, just banning IPs won't stop them - FDN quite simply needs better captcha. This has always been the case.llivv wrote:can you describe why banning tor exit node ip 's is useless?
googlemail accounts are abused by spammers as well, maybe ban registrations from googlemail...? A lot of spammers are from Russia and China so why not just ban those countries..........
I don't much care about the spam - but banning IP addresses is a matter of some concern and should concern all members... as far as I can tell not much has changed - there are just a few more fire fighters fighting the same fire...llivv wrote:is spam here still outta control?

Re: spammers
IP addresses are not unique to a single individual for many reasons. For example, many ISP allocate IP addresses to their customers from a pool. Banning an IP address could easily result in the wrong people being excluded.

Yes, i can confirm that.cynwulf wrote:Just banning the spammers by IP address is not helpful for those of us using tor to access the forums while at work..,
I was IP-banned, two or three days ago. And short after that unbanned again (which i didn't fully understand).
I also can't access google due to usage of tor.
I for one simply don't use sites which do such (No, i will not give up on tor, and other people probably won't neither, else they wouldn't use it ).

Re: spammers
The points are well taken, thanks.
I don't have access to ban anything, so learning what issues are relevant
helps me understand what is happening while I delete the occasional spam posts I see.
I did have a weird view of my routers admin screens yesterday.
Annoying, but no big deal yet.
Should I "stop" posting links to youtube music?
If it effects how the forum is crawled, I don't want to be adding
to the problem.
