The spam warriors are probably posting the spam themselves, so they can make it look like their services are needed and continue receiving our accolades for a job well done.

It could just be coincidence, but the spamhunters are now a "man down" as of yesterday.

I know you're joking, but I'm pretty sure that it's just a matter of fewer hands = more work. It sucks, but that's just the way it is.

fewer hands = more work
Maybe there are some forum members in your vicinity who can buy you a beer for the hard work. :D

What is with all of the shemale-this and shemale-that spammers? The days of predictable viagra and handbags seem to have been replaced by a brave new future of "alternative" spammers. Life is so "interesting".

I have been trying to step up reporting the spam if I see it. Hopefully it helps.

I can assure you that it does help, especially for spam posted to existing legitimate threads, which is often less obvious than spam posted in a standalone new thread.

Then too, the spamhunters are no longer a "man down." Maybe that'll help, too.

OTOH, when the bots attack en masse, there's only so much that the Purple Horde can do. The Purple Hammer is a powerful tool, but also an inherently limited one; it must be wielded one thread/post at a time. Only the Green Overlords can nuke an entire account+all posts in a single blow.

(Edit: I'm not trying to make excuses, just trying to help folks understand that sometimes, even the best efforts of the spamhunters come up short against a concerted, sustained attack.)

Yes it helps to find it, particulary for spammers with not-obvious names posting in existing threads.
It also however adds an extra step, to close the report, when removing the spam, so for huge runs of obvious spam, reporting every one just slows down the removal process a bit.

Point very well taken, and one I didn't fully appreciate until I was conscripted into the Purple Horde. The flip-side, of course, is that users who are trying to help by reporting spam don't know whether a given post (or posts) has already been reported--at least not without trying to report it.

My personal best suggestion is this: when in doubt, report. Multiple reports do slow things down a bit, but IMO too many is better than none at all.

Ok, so I will prioritize posts hidden in legitimate threads. The standalone ones are probably more obvious. :)

If I found a spammer, I'd go to their profile to locate all their posts. I wouldn't be trawling various fora to see where they are.

You were forcibly inducted? I assumed you had enlisted. What a tyrannical board.

It's a huge mistake to not give the spam hunters the tools that they need to do their job -- unless "the Green Overlords" are coming here every few hours and nuking the spammers themselves.

If they did that, we probably wouldn't even need spam hunters.
