HOWTO: install Veracrypt from a repository

#1 Post by stevepusser »

Veracrypt is the successor to Truecrypt, the on-the-fly disk encryption program.

For Debian 7 and 8: https://software.opensuse.org/download. ... =veracrypt

Basically, run all the commands in the instructions as root or with sudo. If you have other OBS repo keys installed, the Release.key file that's downloaded may have a number at the end of it, so use that file name instead in the command to add the key to your system.

Veracrypt on Wheezy requires WX widgets 3.0. It's available in wheezy-backports, but the wheezy-backports version is also in this repository. Installing Veracrypt will pull in what it needs automatically. There's also an updated cryptsetup 1.7.2 for Jessie in the repo that now has Veracrypt support. I haven't figured out how to build it on a Wheezy machine yet.

If anyone wants to flog any of my builds out on a blog, feel free. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Re: HOWTO: install Veracrypt 1.19 from a repository

Veracrypt 1.21 added to the repo for Debian 7, 8, and 9. 1.19 is still in there, but won't show up as the latest version now.
