UNetbootin not working in squeeze: How to get it working.

Postby kgarbutt » 2011-03-06 04:30

My UNetbootin wasn't working correctly in Squeeze. It would create a bootable flashdrive if it (UNetbootin) downloaded the distribution itself, but it wouldn't work if I already had the iso file. So to get it working, he is what I did (should it help someone else):

I had already installed it from the Repositories.

Note: I use sudo, you may have to use su.

> sudo apt-get remove unetbootin
Note: I left all of the dependences in place.

Downloaded UNetbootin (Choose Button that says: 'Download for Linux'). Not the Debian one.
I placed it on my desktop.

>chmod +x unetbootin-linux-502
Or you could go to Properties->Permissions and check "Execute"

> sudo ./unetbootin-linux-502
Note: make an alias to do your dirty work (alias unet='sudo ./unetbootin-linux-502')

My UNetbootin is fixed.
Enjoy.

My Unetbootin on Squeeze works just fine, at least in that regard. I can choose already downloaded iso-files.

However Unetbootin does not play nice with debian's iso-files:

USB install can't mount CD rom

(you should use dd instead)

Thanks kgarbutt

I had the same problem, usb sticks created with unetbootin from the Squeeze repo...they would not boot.

Using the "Download for Linux" unetbootin-linux-565 worked.

Cheers
