Debian Wheezy installer fails / Netinst/DVD

#1 Post by mrkapqa »

Hello ,

today i tried several times with different installation media

Netinst i386 / AMD64
DVD i386

to install Debian Wheezy on my Computer.

The resulting error was

in german

Ein ungültiger Debconf Wert (New German) wurde gefunden

The passage "Software auswählen und installieren" failed

Please check the installer, it used to function previously withouth problems.

Thank you very much

Why install a version that will be reaching end of life fairly soon?

Well, stevepusser is correct as usual.
Wheezy is now in LTS support, EOL is May 31 2018.

That error translates as, An invalid debconf value was found.
Does anybody remember if the Wheezy installer used ftp rather than http for download? If I remember correctly, Debian closed the ftp capability of the mirrors back in November of 2017 so that only
http://ftp. (whichever mirror)
would work.

In any case mrkapqa, there is nothing we could do about it, we are just users like yourself, we are not the developers.

Try the stable installer - stretch. I've used the netinst, CD and DVD - all work for me and many people on various hardware.

Hello Guys,

thanks, i tried the Stretch,

i would like to install Wheezy,

nothing more or less.

The error is probably related to a certain package, and has less to do with Https:// i guess;

also the older installation media doen't work anymore.
i have to say that i changed the installation environment to "desktop=kde" , but that should not make any difference.

That is your right, but don't complain that Debian doesn't work if Wheezy can't be installed. It is practicaly EOL already, Oldstable releases are officially supported only for a year after the next Stable release.
Stretch is your best bet right now. It is both newer and better supported.

I have various installation images /media for Debian 7, (wheezy) and just a short while installed 7.8 on a VM with no problems, like wise my 7.0 image works fine and still could be installed if I wanted or need to.
Any way , I did not have any problems installing it.
It was Jan 8 , 2018 when I installed it.
The most recent install was just a base system, no DE, later I installed a WM and some utilities I use,...

This does have me wondering, how did you do this ?
I just use default installation environment, I am not even sure how one would go about change that, but it seems like it could cause problems.

Hello ,

at the beginning splash screen where it asks if to install in which mode eg. normal mode or expert mode or environment variables etc. i would press key "e" and would add into the line that would appear, before , before the end "Desktop=KDE"

previously i did not have problems, besides , someimes with netinstall ,
but install from DVD went most of the time well.

i did resort installing Kubuntu 12.04 and then upgrading 14.04 -

however, i think there is a bug in the installer,
i will check again with GNOME next time, if this goes well, then problem is related to my inserting KDE .

thanks, i tried today,
the netinst worked with normal configuration;
maybe the error was thrown up because of the option "desktop=kde" that previously used to function aswell, and maybe at the moment no more, or some other unknown error.
good to be on wheezy, great os, i like!
