How to install debian sarge from hard disk in laptop

#1 Post by yjin »

My laptop is Dell LATITUDE D510, and I have installed debian sarge in my PC since March this year. I can not burn CDs to install from cdrom, so every time, I follow these steps below to get my debian work.

download files: vmlinuz and initrd.gz
install base system
configurae PPPoE
with apt-utiles, everything is OK.

but this time, to install debian on my laptop, I encounted a problem that drivers or kernel models in initrd.gz can not regconize my hardware, and install kernel can not find debian netinst.iso which is on C root directory.

what can I do? is initrd.gz not for my laptop. Where can I find a right one.

My cdrom uses USB port.
vmlinuz and initrd.gz is downloaded from http://debian.cn99.com/debian/dists/sar ... media/2.6/
