adobe flash player

#1 Post by WestCoastSunset »

I'm trying to install adobe flash player on wheezy (7.4). I've downloaded the package since adobe thinks apt works in a browser (it doesn't on my laptop). Anyway, I've tried installing the adobe flash player package via gdebi and it complains binutils is not installed. fine, I go to synaptic to find binutils and synaptic cannot find it. I'm not even sure why it is not installed. Does anyone know how to get binutils?

Here is my sources.list:

Code: Select all

I searched for all variations of adobe or adobe flash and cannot find it. Only gnash shows up, which doesn't work for me.

Code: Select all

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package flashplugin-nonfree is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'flashplugin-nonfree' has no installation candidate

I have truly lost count of the number of times I've had to post this link for someone who didn't RTFM in the first place...

https://wiki.debian.org/SourcesList

Fix your sources.list until it looks exactly like what the Wiki says (including contrib and non-free), and then don't mess with it. Period.

Hey Daesin, does it make you feel better to act superior? If you did not want to help (or be bothered) then why did you

even bother posting?

FYI: I found my answer on this page. Thanks wizard1000 for letting me in on the name of the package.

A better question is why you'd go out of your way to antagonize the one person who actually sussed out your problem and pointed you to the fix.

Don't worry, though. It won't happen again. (In fact it can't happen again, since you're now the newest addition to my 'ignore list.')

And if you're whining because I suggested that you should have searched before posting, it's worth pointing out that there are quite literally 280 posts in the past year in these forums asking how to install flash. It's a genuine challenge to imagine how anyone would be surprised that posting #281 wouldn't legitimately earn them a simple RTFM.

(Edited to reflect a pedantically correct count of existing "How do I install Flash?" posts.)

A) because you didn't
B) after finding out the name of the package from wizard1000, I googled that and found out my actual problem. No dasein help required.
C) Try learning some manners

im just installed debian. and couldnt install adobe flash from the terminal. This how i installed it:

1. Download the tar file from the adobe web page: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
2. Unpack the tar file
3. in terminal (as root) type:

Code: Select all

 cd /home/yourusername/Downloads/install_flash_player_11_linux.i386
4. then

Code: Select all

cp libflashlayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
5. and finally

Code: Select all

sudo cp -r usr/* /usr
6 (optional). Go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ and it must says You have version 11,2,202,394 installed

Thats how i installed adobe flash player for iceweasel.

PS. not a english native speaker btw.

There is a simpler method. It's the method detailed repeatedly in the existing threads I referenced in my prior post.

Actually finding that answer is left as an exercise for the motivated reader.

WestCoastSunset all that needed to be done was.

https://wiki.debian.org/FlashPlayer

It explains everything there.

The solution for you is the same as the solution for the OP. Follow the links, read and follow all the instructions (including the section(s) on enabling/disabling install media in your sources.list file).
