debian-installer error doesn't support Windows 6.2.9200SP0

#1 Post by angela_p »

I am trying to install debian from a DVD image from Windows 8 Pro. (Previously I installed from Windows 7 and this DVD worked but the machine bricked because of a BIOS bug. When my machine returned from being fixed it has come back with Win 8 Pro on it, so I've decided to try to install from here first rather than fiddling to reinstall Win7 first then Linux). In the BIOS I have disabled OS Optimised Defaults which disables Secure Boot and sets UEFI/Legacy Boot to both, Priority Legacy to First etc.

When I run the Debian installer I get the error message: Debian-installer loader - this program doesn't support Windows 6.2.9200SP0 yet. And the install doesn't start.

I'm on a Lenovo T540p Thinkpad running Win 8 PRO 6.2.9200. The DVD image is debian-7.4.0_amd64-netinst.iso which installs the minimum from DVD and the rest over the internet. I plan to wipe windows so no dual boot.

btw is there any difference installing from Win 8 as opposed to Win 7 (apart from disabling Secure Boot etc which I've already done)?

Read the manual of Windows 10 which should have been supplied by the manufacturer.

For example, for a kind of Asus PC, https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1013017/
Openbox, JWM: Jessie, Sid, Arch / Win XP (on VirtualBox), 10
