Need help with old mirror's for Lenny.

#1 Post by dave343 »

I'm trying to get Lenny installed on an old IBM thinkpad for a project, and to save on downloading the DVD's I went with the Netinstall CD. My problem is that when it get's to the "Configure the Package manger" (enter the mirror from which Debian will be downloaded) no URL I use works. I'm using the manually enter URL option, so I don't know if I'm entering it wrong, or just pointing to the wrong place. I've been trying all sorts, but mainly http://archive.debian.org and then for directory putting in for example /debian/dists/lenny. Is there a specific URL I need for the archive of Lenny?
I keep getting the message that the mirror is either not available or doesn't have a valid Release File. I know this is a bit past it's age, but I'd really like to get this laptop going with Lenny. I could use a newer version, but I need 5.0 for my project. Thanks in advance for any help, it's much appreciated. :D

Thanks for the reply.

I believe you are referring to the source list, but during the Lenny installation at the Configure Packet Manager screen, it wants you to enter the mirror from which Debian will be installed. It's laid out like:

Debian archive mirror hostname:
____________________________

and then

Debian archive mirror directory:
___________________________

It's in both these fields I'm not sure exactly what to enter. The first one, I would assume is http://archive.debian.org but as for the directory, is it not looking for a structure like /debian/dist/etc....

Thanks again,
