Horray debian installed boo how do I get a gui

#1 Post by oswaldkelso »

Hi all, just installed (Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r0a "Sarge" - Official powerpc Binary-1 CD) on a g4 ppc but when I fire it up It asks for my login and pass word fine. Then I get text? and I dont know what to do to get the desk top (gui).
I have no internet connection with linux but do if I log back in on osx. The bt voyager 105 modem is not supported though I think there is a work around that I've not figured out yet.
As I understand it I should apt-get but is this from the cd or my no existent internet. What should I ap-tget to make the desk top appear. If I have a choice of Desktops I would rather Gnome. Thanks and hope I made sense

Code: Select all

aptitude install gnome gdm x-windows-system
should work, and give you a graphical system.
