#1 Post by barisgulten »

Hi guys,
I tried to install my desktop pc 64 bit debian 8.5 but it freezes at the very beginning. -Language Selection phase-.
32 bit installation worked without any hassle.
Also I faced same situation with latest OpenSuse.
Do you have any idea ?

Hi,
I tried that live image "debian-live-8.5.0-amd64-cinnamon-desktop.iso"
and debian-8.5.0-amd64-kde-CD-1.iso.
Both of them freeze almost same point.
But on the live image also I got that error.

"
squashhfs error : Unable to read data cache entry [1855c49f]
squashhfs error : Unable to read page, block 1855c49f, size 8f08
squashhfs error : Unable to read fragment cache entry [3b4e40c2]
"
like that.
Also I got missing radeon driver firmware warning but I couldn't captured it.

My ethernet realtek 8168e. I added firmware deb file (firmware-realtek_0.43_all.deb) to the usb firmware folder but it didn't help.

I tried many usb stick result is same. It freezing at that point : https://postimg.org/image/6y1117w0j/

Any idea guys ?

Try limiting the amount of ram to the kernel? I forget the syntax, so look it up, and not sure it still works, but try

mem=16G

on the boot line of the LIVE installation. I think you hit tab, add a space, then type your parametrs. Do a quick web search for 'kernel parameters' and you'll probably get lot of hits.

Did the i386 installations recognize all 32G?

could the .iso be corrupt?
did you check checksums before & after creating the medium?

ot: wow, this must be the best quality photgraphed screenshot i've ever seen. you may not be so good with linux, but you certainly are a photgrapher!

There could be a number of reasons. A few tips are listed here:

Debian 12 | KDE Plasma | ThinkPad T440s | 4 × Intel® Core™ i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHz | 12 GiB RAM | Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 4400 | 1 TB SSD

Hi,
I tried mem=16G option and couple of option but it didn't work.
Image or usb is not corrupted. I also tried on couple of usb stick.

I gave a shot to fedora workstation edition and it worked.
Now, I am using fedora on my desktop.

Regards,
Baris.

Congratulations on your success in installing fedora. Enjoy Fedora :)

If you gave up installing debian, could you please change the title of the first post of yours in this thread to something like
Debian 8.5 x64 installation freezes, KINGSTON 32 GB RAM AMD FX 8350 [Not solved, gave up]
by pressing "EDIT" in the first post?
Openbox, JWM: Jessie, Sid, Arch / Win XP (on VirtualBox), 10
