wireless problem

#1 Post by linuxgnu »

Burned all three dvd Debian 8.7.1 today.
I only have access to wireless networks here I sit. but seeing that it is not possible to connect to my wireless network card "Intel (R) Dual Band Wireless-AC7260" when there is no driver or / and not access to such a driver on the three dvd I downloaded.

So when it goes not to use debian then, for us who do not have access to a wired network?

Search the forum. My search found found 17528 matches. I'm sure you can find your answer.

The only option I have is to download the wireless driver, its from win10.
So, does anyone know where I can download this? So that i get it installed in debian?

For those who believe that one can install wireless driver from the web, without network connection!
Good luck with that.

Well, I guess you're not going to search at all. The answer you would have found is that the driver is already in the kernel, but you need to also install the proprietary firmware deb package to make the hardware work: https://packages.debian.org/jessie/firmware-iwlwifi

This is truely a big mystery,...How did the OP connect , and post to the forum ?

Well what I did, was download the firmware needed, and put it on a usb stick, then
I plugged the usb stick into my computer, and installed the firmware, I used a internet cafe to get it the first time,...The OP has a connection, somewhere, this is obvious,...
it does not have to be a internet cafe, it could be another laptop , that does have
a connection,..my kid even dowloaded the firmware with his cell phone, plugged it
into his laptop and installed it. ( I was out of town, and had my usn sticks with me),..
and he needed the firmware,... so he called me , and I gave him the url, it was no big deal, since he also had experience downloading music, and games, with his cell phone, and putting them on a usb stick.
stevepusser has posted the url,..so no need to suggest searching for it, or posting
it again.

And a minimal bit of extra searching should have found the Debian ISOs that include the non-free firmware, just for those unfortunate souls without a wired connection plus wireless hardware that needs that firmware.
