[SOLVED] debian 9 installation to usb not booting

#1 Post by tanel.kaare »

Hi!
I am trying to install debian onto a usb stick. I boot from one stick and later insert secondary stick as target.
I do the usual installation and set partitioning to usb device (i'm pretty sure its the right device).
upon first boot, i don't even get grub menu. cursor just blinks and that's it.
i think grub does not start correctly or mbr is not configured correctly.
Is there a way to investigate this issue further? Will it write any log to somewhere?
As a side note, i tried centos minimal installation also, and that worked nicely. it filled grub menu with machine's main disk partitions, but that does not bother me now, i was able to boot it on other machines also.
i think this setup should work somehow.
Can anybody help me please?

Tanel
