I’d like to install Debian 9 in a VMWare (5.1 Enterprise) instance, but I’m stuck at a grub> prompt with nowhere to go.
In Debian 7, I unintentionally typed restart instead of restarting only Apache. That dumped me out to grub, but now I can’t find a way to download the Debian 9 image.
I have tried rebooting with the shift key held down, with the arrow key held down, even with the escape key. Nothing gets me to the grub menu.
Running any apt command does nothing.
Literally all I did was run restart from within Debian 7. Now I can’t get out of grub.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
