Hi folks,
Fresh install of Debian 9.
I get the prompt for disk password, then just a black screen after that.
TTYs do not appear to be enabled by default.
Booting in safe mode also has no effect, still a black screen.
What shall I try now? How do I gather logs if the screen is blank?
Thanks!

Black screen after fresh install

Can you be more specific?kerryhall wrote:I get the prompt for disk password, then just a black screen after that.
Also what are your specs and what DE did you choose? What gfx card?
No, they are not. You have to configure your login if you want to login via tty:kerryhall wrote:TTYs do not appear to be enabled by default.

You need to configure the GRUB file so you can get a verbose outputkerryhall wrote:Booting in safe mode also has no effect, still a black screen.

Re: Black screen after fresh install
I just installed Debian 9 on a MacBook Pro 2010 and had what may be the same issue. Since we still need more information first to give a specific response, if you are using a computer with an NVidia graphics card, particularly a MacBook Pro, the solution here https://askubuntu.com/questions/264247/ ... verheating may work for you. Only try it if you the graphics card conditions are met though.
In my case, I ran update-grub through the Debian Live USB after inserting the GRUB configuration file into the file system on the local disk.
After I followed the instruction in the link above, I was able to reboot and everything worked normally. The proprietary drivers for my NVidia card worked as well after I installed them.
Again, this may work in your case, may not depending on your situation.
