Dell R640 installaton fails with "No disk drive was detected

Postby ebin » 2018-01-15 07:13

Debian stretch installation on Dell's PowerEdge R640 fails with error message "No disk drive was detected".

Installation works with centos7.

RAID controller is PECL H740P seems to be not detected.

Notes:-
Details of RAID controller when centos 7 was installed: RAID bus controller: LSI Logic / Symbios Logic MegaRAID Tri-Mode SAS3508

Please help.

Looks like a pretty common problem, have you tried any of these solutions? The ones from dell, or mentioning debian specifically would be my first choice.

There are some forum threads that might help also, be sure to search the forum.

I have been searching for some time, couldn't find the solution for the problem I am facing.
The installation of RHEL7/CentOS7 works fine on the server.

If anyone have suggestions, please help with this issue.

It seems that you want to use the hardware RAID controller which Debian isn't detecting. As suggested, search for Debian and the PECL H740P RAID controller.
Also, look at BIOS settings and checking the RAID options, as well as other options.
If all else fails, turn off hardware RAID and use Debian software RAID.
How many disks do you have and what type of RAID do you want to use?
