keyboard recognition

#1 Post by sacarde »

hi,
in old installer, there was a function for recognizing the keyboard
that had some keys press and recognized it automatically ...

Is it possible to have it now?
and run it standalone?

thank you

sacarde, I don't remember that but I always use the US keyboard so wouldn't have had to use it anyway. However, I'm getting old and maybe don't remember.
I've only used Debian since Woody, was it prior to that release?

Fortunately, the installation guides for 3, 4 and 5 are still online. I chose to only look at AMD64 versions but I doubt keyboard installation is much different from other architectures. I don't find any mention of the function you asked about.

However, you can look for yourself in case I missed something.

It seems like if I remember correctly, Debian 6 (squeeze) had some thing like that, I was using a spanish keyboard when I installed it, and it detected that is was a Spanish key board, on Debian 7 , I don't recall ever seeing the same options.

ho... sorry

I remember this function in ubuntu alternate installation

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubun ... ateInstall

at point 4 alternative
4. Select your keyboard layout by selecting "No"
Alternatively, it can detect your keyboard layout. (You will be asked to press some keys.)
but the origin I think it was debian
