Wireless connection don't work anymore

Postby donlaiq » 2018-02-10 17:47

Hello,

I'm sorry if I'm repeating an old thread. Actually I didn't find anything similar here.
I booted my PC and the system ask me for an upgrade. I accepted that but after the reboot my WI-FI adapter TP-LINK TL-WN722N didn't work anymore.
I'm not sure what the previous version was, but now I'm having Debian Stretch 9.3, and I can't find a way to make this adapter work again.
Any ideas?

Regards.

That device came in different versions with different chipsets.
With the device plugged in, post the output of
Code: Select all

What did you have to do to get the driver working before, since it doesn't appear to be in the kernel?

Also relevant is what upgrades you did that made it stop working. Adding a new kernel or upgrading an existing one will break existing out-of-tree drivers until you rebuild them.

Well, for sure I have broke something, because I tried to reinstall the drivers and I had no luck.

According to the log history, the packages updated should be:

    irqbalance:amd64 (1.1.0-2.3, automatic)
    linux-image-4.9.0-5-amd64:amd64 (4.9.65-3+deb9u2, automatic)
    libmediainfo0v5:amd64 (0.7.91-1, automatic)
    firmware-linux-free:amd64 (3.4, automatic)
    libtinyxml2-4:amd64 (4.0.1-1, automatic)
    libzen0v5:amd64 (0.4.34-1, automatic)
    upgrade:
    linux-image-amd64:amd64 (4.9+80+deb9u1, 4.9+80+deb9u3)

It seems I found a way to solve my problem.
I'm not sure if it will be every time I boot the computer, but I found an annoying lag till the network is detected, but besides that it works fine.
If anyone has the same problem, here is the link.

PD: By the way, I don't understand why it stops working.

And I don't understand why you did not give the procedure you used to get it working in the first place. Since the driver is not in the kernel, you must have downloaded and built the outside driver.

Do you really not understand how this was critical information to try and find out why it stopped working? [another-annoyed-rant]

Well, the procedure is all documented in the github repository description. It may be that the free drivers weren't ported correctly to the new kernel version. I have the same adapter and still having issues, when I'll get home I will try this outside driver.
