Hi, I have Athlon X4 (no build-in graphics), Gigabyte GA-F2A88XN-Wifi, that i added Nvidia GT 1030, before it had AMD R9 280 and was working ok.
Im starting to get this screen and can't get in to desktop after installing Nvidia driver (apt install nvidia-driver), i've tryedreinstalling couple of times thinking it was the wifi stuff that is on this motherboard (i use cable, and dont' really care if wifi or bluethooth works), but its only after installing Nvidia drivers that i get this, there were also error regardless realtek firmware, but i fixed by installing the realtek firmware, before installing the Nvidia driver. Before I install the Nvidia the it load to the desktop fine, just with low resolution. But after the restart, that you have to do to enable the drivers and remove Nouveau, it can never go back to the desktop, just freezes with "failed to load" screen. In recovery mode it gives me terminal, but doesn't give the access to the internet, to reinstall, so im left with reinstalling the OS again. I'm a bit puzzled now at how to fix it, and if the Nvidia drivers are the actual culprit here or i just have solutions for the rest of the errors, but wondering it will help. I did have 'contrib non-free' added to /etc/apt/sources.list every time.

freezes of "failed to load firware"
Re: freezes of "failed to load firware"
As far as I know the nvidia driver in stretch does not support the gt1030.

Re: freezes of "failed to load firware"
If you had run the nvidia-detect script first, as recommended, it would have told you that, then recommended the version in stretch-backports, which is 384.111.
You were getting the firmware messages before you borked the video driver, but you are only noticing them now.

Thanks guys! Yes, i just found out that i just needed a newer driver for GT1030, i did run nvidia-detect but didn't pay much attention to it for some reason, it didn't recommend any specific version, and repository only had 375 version that didn't support the 1030. I've download 381.11 version and it seems to be working fine now.
Thanks again guys! Really appreciate it!
