Help with issues regarding installation of Debian

absent firmware

Postby vitdut3 » 2018-03-29 10:57

Hello everyone!
I've know about Debian and the Linux world for only two days and I decided to install Debian on two old laptops that used windows xp (as I doubt they would be able to support other OS)
I installed the ISO image on a usb stick and started the installation on my hp compaq mini 700el and I came to a page that told me to insert another drive to add the missing firmware (b43/ucode15.fw b43-open/ucode15 .fw)

What do I do? The installation page warns me that if the firmware is missing, the PC will not work properly. Is there a way to add them to the usb stick?

Thank you for your attention, and I apologize if this question has already been asked but I could not find anything like it .. if it has already been resolved, please show me!

I found this on the Debian wiki

https://wiki.debian.org/Firmware#Firmwa ... stallation

I tried putting the zip files (for stretch since it's what I'm trying to install) in the firmware folder, however that didn't work as well...

I'm confused on what to do, any suggestions?

Either complete the install and install the package firmware-b43-installer or firmware-b43legacy-installer

OR

install one of the unofficial builds with non-free firmware

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unoff ... 0+nonfree/
HP Elitebook 2570p, Intel Core i5 3320-M CPU @ 2.60 GHz, 6 GB RAM, Intel HD 4000 graphics, 240 GB SSD, Debian Stretch (KDE)

There are a lot results when I searched for b43+firmware on the forum, also ucode15 gets some results that might help. The internet has dozens of pages, it is a well-known issue with b43 devices.

If the device you have is this:
Code: Select all
$ lspci -nn | grep BCM
07:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Limited BCM4312 802.11b/g LP-PHY [14e4:4315] (rev 01)

Then it works fine and is supported on stretch, I have been using it a long time. The wiki has instructions https://wiki.debian.org/bcm43xx
Firmware is not packaged by the Debian Project. It must be downloaded and extracted, which can be performed by the firmware-b43-installer...
An Internet connection is required.

It is possible that the firmware rules for this have changed, so if the non-free installer works, then please let me know?
Thanks.
