HI All
Got a little issue with the above iso. The pc i am trying to install to is an ebox3350mx and using unetbootin to create usb drive.
when it comes up with the option's to use. I used default it say's can't install because it is not 686 cpu lacking comv (which i know about)
So now i am a little confused i thought i386 was for older cpu that is not 686. ebox being 586 cpu.
Any pointer's to what i am doing wrong.
Many Thank's
Andrew

First off, it's suggested not to use unetbootin as it alters the image.

"i386" is the architecture name in Debian. It is used as a synonym for "32-bit x86" or IA-32.
Real i386 CPUs have not been supported any more for ages, but Debian would not have renamed the architecture every time they dropped support for a CPU.
Debian 9 "Stretch" dropped support for 586 CPUs and requires at least a 686 CPU, ie Pentium Pro or Pentium II.

I usually use a Live-Cd to test any systems I am unsure of, this will allow you to see if the desktop works before performing a full installation and could give you some needed information.
https://www.debian.org/CD/live/
If that doesn't work you might need to search another distribution that still supports your hardware (Distrowatch might be useful)

Hi All
Thank's for the reply's. I didnt know that about unetbootin and found rufus 2.17p that has DD mode to so i used it.
I wont install beause of the lack of CMOV. As the ebox is just a play thing i am bothered what it run's. though it did run debain
a few years ago i think it was debain 6. If that is still available and change the soucres list to the archive if still available.
Many Thank's

Re: Debian-9.4.0-i386-netist.iso
Debian 6 is obsolete.
The latest version which supports 586 is Debian 8, which is currently still maintained officially but will very soon fall under LTS (long term support).

Hi All
Thank you for your replys. I got debian 8.10 netinst.iso. I have managed to replicate the problem 3 times 2 on ebox and 1 in virtualbox.
It installs wrote down all the user names and passwords. I try to login and incorrect password even though i wrote them down.
I have also tried different keyboards and mouse. Still the same so i have a machine i cant get into.
Many Thanks
Andrew
