Hi: This is an Acer Aspire One 1-431. The touchpad does not respond. Worst, I think the OS does not detect it.
I have tried tried looking in dmesg, inxi -Fx, lspci, lsusb, lshw, hwinfo and dmidecode w/various parameters
for the strings 'mouse', 'synaptics' and 'touchpad' with no results. Also 'xinput list', 'cat /proc/bus/input
/devices', 'grep -i "input device" /var/log/Xorg.0.log' and 'grep "using input" /var/log/Xorg.0.log'.
The BIOS has no option having to do with the touchpad. However there is function key Fn-F7. The manufacturer
manual says: "Turns the built-in touchpad on and off". Can this key have anything to do with the problem?
This machine came with Windows 10 installed by the manufacturer. I wiped the hard disk and installed Debian.
But Windows 10 managed perfectly well the touchpad. I would be difficult Linux can't do the same thing.

Debian 9.4: touchpad not detected.
Re: Debian 9.4: touchpad not detected.
That is odd, this thread says there should be Touchpad [Basic,Advanced] on one of the tabs... Maybe reset to bios defaults would help.stf92 wrote:

Do you see anything listed as "Unknown" in /proc/bus/input/devices?
This thread says it worked fine on ubuntu.

I reset the BIOS to default settings and nothing happened. In /proc/bus/input/devices there is no instance of unknown (I looked with less -i, case insensitive).

Another thread that mentions Touchpad basic/advanced setting in BIOS on Acer Cloudbook AO1-431

I don't see any reference to the touchpad and the BIOS there.

Are there any updates available for the BIOS?

?
if so you did not read the entire thread.
I'll be honest here, once again with OP. You are very lame in your posts, showing very little initiative. We don't need threads here that distract or disrupt the forum. please try to do better....
So, after trying different stuff, I figured out that to get the mouse working I had to go to BIOS and put it to Basic and not advanced, found that on a thread. Here is the thread about bios and mouse http://askubuntu.com/questions/680873/t ... oudbook-11
