Since you can get to tty then I'd disagree that the machine is unable to boot, the place I'd look next is "Unable to run display manager," or "Black screen in display manager."

Since the freeze for testing (Buster) is coming in a few months, https://lists.debian.org/debian-devel-a ... 00004.html I wouldn't use it unless you want a lot of headaches. There will probably be a lot of pkgs changed/introduced before the freeze. IIRC it can be a very difficult time. I usually try testing after the hard freeze, most of the worst bugs are gone by then.

Hmmm...this doesn't seem to be Debian with that kernel version, unless it's a pretty old version of Buster. Could you let us know what it is?
