New to debian

New to debian

New to debian just installed debian I log in and get a prompt. What do a type to start the OS? Should I get a Screen to Log in ? Or did I install it wrong?

You installed the operating system, but you did not install the graphical environment. Do apt-get update && apt-get install x-window-system-core gdm <graphical environment>

<graphical environment> can be one or more (or all) of the following choices: gnome-core, kdebase, xfce4, fluxbox, wmaker, icewm...

I did the apt-get all downloaded. On reboot I get a bug message about xfree86. What des it mean?

Thanks for the help.Tried three installs downloads and config ok.when I reboot I still get the text login.when a screen comes up talking about xfree86 and sending a bug report.Did not write what it said.Mybe debian is not for newbees.I have install other Linux OS with little trouble.I have been tring different linux,but this one will be removed from my list.Too hard for me,nice Forum
