Could somebody do debian-live-buster-DI-a5-amd64-gnome.iso?

#1 Post by _nobody_ »

Hello Folks,

The new Debian Buster Alpha 5 came out two days ago (February 04th, 2019.). I have noticed on the image page https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/ the following:
Alpha/Beta/Release Candidate builds of Debian Installer and Live images for Buster
Alpha 5 is the most recent set of installer images (for all architectures)
Alpha 1 is the most recent set of live images (for i386 and amd64)
Could anybody from the Debian technical support do the same for Alpha 5? Or teach/lecture us how to make one of these (namely debian-live-buster-DI-a5-amd64-gnome.iso)?

I would like to try preseed-ed Buster Alpha 5 version for VBox VM creation (for this I need live Alpha 5, since I need d-i/ directory).

I would like to thank you for understanding,
_nobody_

Try the weekly build? Maybe it will pop up soon...
https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/week ... so-hybrid/

This is a user forum, support for live build might be better in https://lists.debian.org/debian-live/ there is also an IRC channle check here... https://www.debian.org/devel/debian-live/

From what I recall, in the past the alpha and beta vers of installer images are for testing the installer. The recommended way of installing buster is still probably to use stable and upgrade to testing. I usually wait until a release candidate is available to use the images to install.

Hello bw123,

Thank you for this hint. I needed that, I am still ignorant about lot of Debian sites/web pointers (as noticed, 7 years already very deep in Fedora).

I did write a spec, and upon spec built phase 3 comprehensive shell script to make initrd.gz to be preseed initrd.gz using Debian 10 Live Buster. But, yes, I still need to do earlier phases:
phase 1: to change isolinux/isolinux.cfg (for legacy boot);
phase 2: to change boot/grub/grub.cfg (for UEFI boot)!

One step at the time!

After initial chaos, since these preseed-ed scripts are complex... I was able to contain complexity.

The latest Buster Debian Live: Linux unassigned-hostname 4.19.0-2-amd64 #1 SMP Debian 4.19.16-1 (2019-01-17) x86_64 GNU/Linux behaves way better then previous kernel version: 4.19.0-1-amd64.

At least considering d-i/ preseed Debian installer. :!: :?:

Do you really need d-i or do you just want some automated installation for buster for your VM? Do you know the FAI (Fully Automatic Instalaltion) project? We can create customized installation or cloud images for buster via a web page. Have a look at https://fai-project.org/FAIme

Sounds interesting. I promise: I'll look into it. I need some time to do this (since I have few complex things to do prior), but certainly I will (I already put it in my schedule).

Thank you for the tip,
