GRUB not showing up, directly boots to Windows 10

#1 Post by Hope Falconer »

I have 2 hard disks in my computer: 500GB and 160 GB.
I first installed windows on 500GB hard disk.
I installed Debian on 160GB and partitioned it to 3 partitions: 4GB swap, 200MB ESP(EFI System Partition) and 155GB ext4 root(/).
After the installation is completed, I restarted my PC and GRUB didn't show and windows 10 booted directly.
I have gone to the Boot menu and tried to change the order, but to no avail.
I even tried to boot from the hard disk by selecting it from boot menu, still no result.
How do I boot into Debian?

If you are planning to keep both disks in the machine you should use 1 esp partition, you could (or should) add the Debian installation to the main esp partition of HDD1 (Windows HDD) to get a choice of either system at boot time (via the boot key which varies but mine is F12). There are quite a few posts in the forum telling you how to achieve this so I will not re-invent the wheel here.

Sorry, my bad. I have been in a hurry and posted it without thinking. Thanks for the reply though.
I also hope that you wouldn't mind sharing the link!

===additional===
Dual boot Debian, and windows GRUB not showing up, directly boots to Windows 10
============
How to do a search
===
I don't really know, since I have never had this problem myself, I do not use any Windows, only doors, and sometimes the backdoor, especially when I visit the neighbours wife :mrgreen:
How ever, looking at some of the results, I see there is a lot of info on Dual booting Debian, and MSwindows, and it is pretty common question here on this forum, 2 or 3 a week, sometimes more....
Do we have any discord server or telegram channel, group?
What is a "discord server" ? Let me see: (so I do a quick search) ,
ahh ok, well I don't have that either, so no we don't have that, maybe the others do,...Who do you mean by we ?
Another search shows that there are many telegram channels, and seems to be very popular with bots, Are you a BOT ?
Do we have any discord server for telegram channel, group?
And yes we do have a lot of groups, don't we ?

Did you want me to search the forums for you and then link to the results I find?

I don't think I referenced any link in my previous post but here's a link for you, it is aimed at a single disk installation but it should give you the relevant information.

I am not trying to be rude here, but I moved to fedora.
The magical thing here is that, I partitioned the disk in the same way I did for Debian, and it worked in case of fedora.
Maybe these small things could explain the reason why Linus Torvalds prefers fedora over Debian.
But I am still trting find an answer to start using Debian, cause I really wante to use Debian atleast once!
If you find an answer please tell me!

OK, fine, I will spoon feed you this post by p.H from the thread to which I referred earlier:

http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=701207#p701207

The causes & solutions bit at the end may help, read the rest of that thread as well.

you guys that know so much are so nasty and rude and make people leave debian instead of helping them to get it working. That is why I stopped asking for help here or even participate in this group of really odd fellows here. i know people that search stuff and not much stuff come up and someone else who knows the correct wording or useage comes up with the answer--- yes it is a you know it or you don;t and you guys that know it and act so freakin smart are too dumb to get that people are looking for help and are interested in debian. You are driving them away with your hubris and 'know it all'. I bet it took you seom serious learning curves to get to where you were. it is a shame!

Dictionary.com wrote:verb (used with object)

@treebeard
Does the above definition qualify your comments as harassment?

Ah, thanks, I wondered where that was from: http://daemonforums.org/showpost.php?p= ... stcount=21

Anyway, the reason why I am being so nasty to the OP is because they are displaying the traits of a Help Vampire and I think it's better for such types to be encouraged to go elsewhere and not pollute these boards with their crap.
