Does this distributive include GNOME3?

#1 Post by Abormot »

Guys, hello everyone.

I need to install Debian 10 with GMONE3 on my MacBook Air 11" late 2012.

I need to know:
1. If this ISO image includes GNOME3 (will GNOME3 be installed automatically)? https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/cu ... e-CD-1.iso

2. I have Wi-Fi adapter - Broadcom Limited BCM4360. Will the driver be installed automatically with this ISO or I will need to download the driver separately? The problem is that if the driver will not be installed automatically, I will not have ability to download it as my Wi-Fi will not work.

Thanks for help.

I still have one questions left: my adapter model is 4360 rev. 3, but here: https://packages.debian.org/search?keyw ... -installer I found driver only for 4306 rev. 3. I am confused - is it the same or different models of adapters?

Almost all wi-fi hardware needs non-free firmware to work. If you're dependent on that, use the Debian ISO that includes the non-free firmware--a web search will turn those up very quickly. If you're unlucky, that Broadcom chip requires the broadcom-sta driver, and you'll have to ask someone here to build it for you with module-assistant and put it up for download.

GNOME 3 is the default desktop for Debian. You'll get it if you choose to install a desktop environment without specifying one of the other ones.

Broadcom's a complete bastard with Debian, I would just buy an Intel wireless card (and use firmware-iwlwifi) instead.

FWIW: https://wiki.debian.org/wl

Somebody here might build you a driver and provide a link. Not me though

I thought Apple designers are complete bastards about making their hardware easy to get at and switch, too. I'll make the 64-bit Buster broadcom-sta driver debs if it turns out you need them--it would take just a minute or so on the MX 19 alpha in a virtual machine, since it's using the stock Debian kernel at the moment.

Thanks everyone. I installed Debian with GNOME3 and I had a lot of tricks with Broadcom Drivers - you have to install 2 of them one on another - this way will work.
