newbie install to usb hdd

#1 Post by petecchia »

I have a Dell Inspirion 6000 and want to install Debian 3.1 (sarge?) on to my external usb hard drive.

My bios supports boot from usb no probs but the Debian automatic install only recognises my internal ide hdd.

I googled and searched debian.org but I could only find info regarding usb flash memory.

I do not have Linux installed on my internal drive yet, I want to do that once I learn how to make things like the 1600x1050 resolution and wifi work with my computer with Debian.

Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

The Debian-Installer web page would be a good place to go.
