Debian Buster Live cannot load graphical environment

Postby FlavioML » 2019-11-24 15:15

Hi all,

A few months ago I have builded an entry level AMD based desktop pc. The MB is asrock A320M-HD and CPU/APU ryzen 3 3200G.
After installing Kubuntu 19.04 as default operating system I thought of testing other distributions as a second option. So even though I have a Debian Stretch Live KDE stick that runs smoothly on my hardware, I downloaded Debian Buster Live Cinnamon. This release cannot load the graphical environment on my machine stopping booting on a black screen with a blinking cursor on top/left.
To make sure cinnamon wasn't the problem I tested with Buster Live Gnome, with the same results.
Shown below is the relevant part of Xorg.0.log:

I must report this as a bug?

The package versions for Debian buster were frozen a few months before the 3rd generation Ryzens were introduced so the stock kernel, drivers & firmware lack support.

Thanks for the answer but to me this looks like a bug, since Debian Stretch, as I said before, runs smoothly on that desktop, as do Debian-based distributions such as Gparted-live and Knoppix.
In this way would Debian Buster be banned for me?

Not to mention that AMD graphics require the non-free firmware-amd-graphics package to work correctly in DEs like GNOME or Cinnamon, it's not installed by default in Debian, and you have not mentioned anything about whether it's installed or not.
The MX Linux repositories: Backports galore! If we don't have something, just ask and we'll try--we like challenges. New packages: Clipgrab 3.8.6, Hedgewars 1.0.0, PulseEffects 4.6.9, Telegram-desktop 1.8.15, Pale Moon 28.8.0, KeepassXC 2.5.1

Which graphics drivers are loaded? The X.Org log would be interesting to read.
