Installing Debian on newly connected/partitoned SATA SSD

Postby vryni » 2020-11-03 10:42

Hi there

I connected a new 256 GB SATA SSD drive to my desktop
instead of a secondary HDD
and i partitioned the SSD drive with Gparted

When i turn on the computer it boots from previously installed
Debian 10.5 HDD and the newly connected SSD drive icon is diplayed
on desktop as "256 GB volume"
When i point at the icon with the cursor
it displays "Removable volume not mounted yet"

When i restart the computer with Debian 10.6 installation DVD inserted
it displays "Debian Gnu/Linux installer menu (Bios mode)"
with all the installation options

However, when i click the first option of "Graphical install"
the DVD drive blinks several time - while being accessed
and then - the screen freezes

All i can do is restart the computer

What should i do ?

If you want to boot from the new SSD, you need to enable that in BIOS, or System Settings depending on the computer. Or you should be able to press ESC or another function key to get a boot menu. As for the DVD, not enough information. My first guess would be a defective burn of the installer image, but that's just a guess.
Take my advice, I'm not using it.
