Hello
I experience problems with facebook video calls
please note that I try running facebook calls inside the brave-browser web page and not in an messenger app or whatever.
a kind of generic error message.
an error occurred please restart your browser or reboot your computer
I have a plug and play webcam Logitech, Inc. Webcam C210
cvlc seems to work ( I have video screen) but with some warnings/errors:
cvlc v4l2:///dev/video0
VLC media player 3.0.12 Vetinari (revision 3.0.12-1-0-gd147bb5e7e)
[000055b201681830] dummy interface: using the dummy interface module...
[00007fe710004cc0] gl gl: Initialized libplacebo v2.72.0 (API v72)
[00007fe70c00adf0] main decoder error: buffer deadlock prevented
how do you debug facebook video calls ?
should I try something else (Zoom/Skype/...) ?
any hint is welcomed.
thanks

webcam and facebook video calls not working
Re: webcam and facebook video calls not working
Does the "brave-browser web page" have a forum or help service? I ask because the Brave browser is not in the Debian repositories and I don't think many here use it.

Re: webcam and facebook video calls not working
Try one of the officially supported browsers:
https://www.facebook.com/help/211644178877843
Brave is based on Chrome (or was last time I looked) but has blocking features that may interfere.
https://community.brave.com/t/no-camera ... ics/132001
You could try turning off "shields" and "fingerprinting" and other blocking features, or just use Chrome itself.

Re: webcam and facebook video calls not working
Thank you all
I works well with firefox
I should have tought about facebook cuts.
last week I posted an ad in "for sale" marketplace facebook's group and the ad was cut due to facebook's "intellectual property laws"
I was trying to re-sell my old computer, but the ad was saying some unlawful keywords: debian 10 linux bullseye system and facebook does not allow it
I think facebook have automated censured cuts
so no video calls in brave-browser neither. sorry.
youtube does not seems to like brave neither.

Re: webcam and facebook video calls not working
I have the same problem. It happens in firefox and chrome and in the GNOME browser. I've given permission to facebook to use the camera. I've also ticked the box in settings not to ask me every time a site wants to use the camera. Nothing worked. I'm running Debian 11 with Gnome

Hi,
You might like jitsi / jitsi meet, which is 100% free software, good quality and very easy to use.
See jitsi.org.
DebianStable
Code: Select all
$ vrms
No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.
