Installation stops!

I tried to install 'Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 r0a "Sarge" - Official i386 Binary-1 CD ', but short after pressing 'Enter' at bootup, the initial process stops and shows two lines saying something like this:

Kernel Panic: No init found
Try passing init= option to kernel

Something like that anyway.

So, what to do?

on what hardware are you installing?

when you boot from the install cd, choose help (is this F2, im not sure, but it says somthing on the menu) and look if you find some boot options you might need for some hardware, e.g. notebooks.
