Help with Debian Install

Alright, So i've installed Debian.iso and installed it on my computer. I can get to the Terminal, but when I try to startx it says "Fatal Server error: No screens Found" and something about GDM. If i type GDM in the Prompt it tells me that GDM is already running.

can you give us a bit more details what video card etc you use and what error exactly you get when trying to start the xserver. did you run

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86
or any other command to create a /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file?
debian squeeze for everyday life, many other versions for the rest
