Freemind 0.7.1-6 Fails

Postby Algenon » 2007-12-13 18:31

I've been trying to get Freemind to run on Debian etch. Although it downloads and installs ok through synaptic, when trying to run it I get the error:
Code: Select all
alan@brittany6:~$ freemind

alan@brittany6:~$

Any help would be appreciated as my wife uses this package and it'll earn me lots of points if I get it working!

Code: Select all
apt-get install gcj-4.1

Thanks for the help. I tried apt-get install gcj-4.1 and then tried to re-run, and now I get:
Code: Select all
alan@brittany6:~$ freemind

Looking for user properties:
/home/alan/.freemind/user.properties

User properties found.
Default (System) Look & Feel: javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel
Warning: the font you have set as standard - null - is not available.

/usr/bin/freemind: line 118: 19834 Aborted                 ${JAVACMD} freemind.main.FreeMind $@

Any further thoughts?

Did you install java? What does this command tell you?
Code: Select all
which java

Lots of documentation on the wiki which does have a mention of your issue but not exactly a solution.

Did you read the howto for Debian?

Failing that I have no idea.

Which java gives me:

Code: Select all
alan@brittany6:/var/log$ which java
/usr/bin/java
alan@brittany6:/var/log$

I took a look at the wiki and found that when I issue the following, it complains about a font. I wonder if this is the problem?

Code: Select all
alan@brittany6:~/.freemind$ freemind

Looking for user properties:
/home/alan/.freemind/user.properties

User properties found.
Default (System) Look & Feel: javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel
Warning: the font you have set as standard - null - is not available.

I note that in my Xorg.0.log file I get some font errors. Are these connected?

Code: Select all

        Entry deleted from font path.

I did:

Code: Select all
update-alternatives --config java

then it showed:

Code: Select all
Hay 3 alternativas que proveen `java'.

  Selección     Alternativa
-----------------------------------------------
*+        1    /usr/lib/jvm/java-gcj/jre/bin/java
          2    /usr/bin/gij-wrapper-4.1
          3    /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun/jre/bin/java

I chose 3 and enter... then I launched freemind and bingo!

it works.
