Installer does not detect ethernet card

You have an Atheros AR9285 wireless card.

It looks to be fully-supported, as well.

There appears to be a slight issue with that card and that particular ISO image. From the bug report:

During installation, the kernel recognized the wireless card atheros
AR8152, but it's atl1c driver is not loaded. Loading the driver by hand
did not change anything. The installation was successfull using the
wireless interface Atheros AR9285. After having rebooted the laptop, the
kernel was able to successfully load the atl1c module, and the eth0
interface could be brought up.

So, once you get the wireless enabled, reboot, you should be up and running. Good luck.

I did notice that the installer picked up on the wireless connection but unfortunately I have had difficulty setting up the wireless connection. It asks me for two things basically:

1. [!!] Configure the network

Attempting to find an available wireless network failed.

wlan0 is a wireless network interface. Please enter the name (the ESSID) of the wireless network you would like wlan0 to use. To skip wireless configuration and continue, leave this field blank.

If applicable, please enter the WEP security key for the wireless device wlan0. There are two ways to do this:

If your WEP key is in the format "nnnn-nnnn-nn', 'nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn:nn', or 'nnnnnnnn', where n is a number, just enter it as it is into this field.

If your WEP key is in the format of a passphrase, prefix it with 's:' (without quotes).

Of course, if there is no WEP key for your wireless network, leave this field blank.

Now, I really don't understand what these two questions are asking but I did try to the best of my knowledge to answer them. I put in my AT&T wireless connection info and password. But it didn't work.

Is AT&T the wireless service provider for you laptop?
Do you have a different Service Provider for your wired internet connection?

I would recommend to use CD1 for an install without network connection and the go from there, since the bug report states that after the install there is no problem anymore with the ethernet card.

No, AT&T is my internet provider (both wireless and wired). The thing is that when I use the ethernet I don't have to put in any info. For wireless however I have three or four pieces of information: 1. a 10-digit passcode, 2. another passcode which is a mix of letters and numbers (12-keys long), 3. the name of the wireless connection which you can find from the menu that wireless router picks up in your area, and finally the name of the connection which is gateway.2wire.net or something like that. When I read ESSID and WEP I have no idea which piece of information the system requires.

Could you please refer me to the correct link to download the file for CD1? Is the method of burning it on a CD similar to the .iso image/Debian installer?

Assuming it's testing (squeeze) that you want? Weekly builds are here: http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekly-builds/

You just need CD1 for whatever architecture it is you want to install. Burn it as you would have burned the netinstall or any iso.

You do know how to burn a CD- correct?

if I used wireless more I might be able to tell you which of what you described above was the "wep key" and which was your "ESSID"

I'm still not clear about how you connect using AT&T..
Do you have any AT&T hardware that you use to connect?
If yes, is it the same box for the wired and wireless?
If it is the same box, can you login to the box?

Also, if AT&T offer tech support, call them and ask them to help you find your wep key and ESSID.
