Called it with a week, I did.

Statistics can be a wonderful substitute for opinion.

I still say May 10, because that's what the numbers tell me.

It's official! Be the first to Know!

Release date for Wheezy announced
Neil McGovern, on behalf of the Release Team, announced that the next stable version of Debian, "Wheezy", will be released during the first weekend of May (4/5 May). Help with the final touches is welcome: "release notes, installation guides and documentation in general, especially translations can always do with some work. Please see previous mails on these, and help if you can", explained Neil. And to show Debian your love, you can organise a Release Party in your city.
DebianStable

Code: Select all

No non-free or contrib packages installed on debian! rms would be proud.

One wrinkle to watch for here might be

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=645713
many squeeze->wheezy upgrades fail...
:x

This can be avoided by doing a clean install of course.

Yes, he sounds like a real daredevil. It wouldn't surprise me if his hobbies are base jumping, cave diving and bull riding.

One "bug" I have discovered with Whezzy is the installation ISOs. I just bought a new computer, down-loaded the 64-bit Wheezy XFCE CD1 and installed, but it installed Squeeze.

Up-grade problems? Yeah, I've read about those.
I was expecting problems both installing and up-grading, because my new machine has UEFI and an nVidea GeForce. But once the UEFI settings were changed to Legacy Mode, installation was normal and the system worked fine. During the up-grade, APT warned me that my hardware might require extra firmare not included in the official repositories, but the only problems I had after up-grading were with conky and transparency. My nVida works perfectly without having the non-free repo in my sources list. Either I am very lucky or there is a very small number of computers that cause problems and they have coincidentally all been bought by Debian users.

May I know how many months it would take to get full installation DVDs(a set of ten).

As I am living in a remote area I have to buy finished DVDs and vendors release these DVDs when they are available for download using http, ftp or torrent.

Please do not respond negatively.

Rupesh.

We don't build the iso's so we don't know when they will be available.
