Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it. -- Brian Kernighan

Forecasting is very difficult... especially about the future!

Re: about wheezy release date
Some people said we would have it released by easter, but I guess we still need a couple more weeks.
We are struggling to stay below 50 RC bugs right now.
But, you can "release" Wheezy by yourself, just edit /etc/apt/sources.list and change where it is written "testing" to "wheezy".
It will only get updates intended to Wheezy once it is released, that way.

Re: about wheezy release date
Enough.
If one imagines that time-to-release is approximately linear, then the statistically best answer is: late April.
However, RC bugs are currently coming in as fast as they are being fixed--slightly faster when I last checked. So the relationship may not be linear after all (meaning: it may prove to be sometime in May).
But here's the thing. Asking about a release date, prognosticating about it, worrying about it, fretting over it... none of these things actually alters it in any way.
Unless you're running a betting pool, it's time to think about something else. (And if you are running a betting pool, pencil me in for May 10.)

Re: about wheezy release date
i also do not understand why people get nervous about the actual release date... it's just the Debian way of releasing stable versions which moved me to the Debian community. it's the best way to organise things.... only releasing when it's done. this is what separates Debian from the rest! we should embrace this way of working.
debian 7.0 wheezy 3.2.0-4-686-pae gnu/linux
Re: about wheezy release date
I look at it as declaring a package stable since you can use it before it's "released". Kind of like what's in a name if you know what I mean.sakamoto wrote:i also do not understand why people get nervous about the actual release date... it's just the Debian way of releasing stable versions which moved me to the Debian community. it's the best way to organise things.... only releasing when it's done. this is what separates Debian from the rest! we should embrace this way of working.
Re: about wheezy release date
I look at it as declaring; We feel the system is now stable enough to release as a Stable system. (In other words, the job is done.) As opposed to; The packages that have been available for a while already now have our official Stable stamp.
But that is me.
But that is me.

Re: about wheezy release date
sorry because you are hurt and I have asked due to curiosity and I have never thought you may hurt and also I have thought you know the status.
Re: about wheezy release date
Perhaps you're not understanding what the other posters in this thread have been saying. Debian does not have a specific release date; Wheezy will become stable when all the release-critical bugs are fixed - i.e. it's ready when it's ready. The release is likely to be soon but no one, not even the Debian release team, knows exactly when.
Re: about wheezy release date
Hello, i've only been using Gnu/Linux for about two years and was just curious, does Debian release betas and rcs before a release is declared 'stable'?

No.
That is what 'testing' is for.

Re: about wheezy release date
Testing is a rolling "alpha - beta - rc" release , until it's released as stable
They do have a beta/rc installer:
