Experiment.

Pull the lib from the Wheezy package and put it in
/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu
both file and symlink
(back up that directory first)

Else see if you can get the source, and recompile it in your machine.
Then you can debianize it, and possibly submit it.

deb files are ar archives.
