Debian Testing/9/Stretch Live image

#1 Post by Tim4 »

Is beta version already available for download? If not when it will be? Or it will be available after Debian 9 will released only?

EDIT: I ask for Gnome, KDE, Xfce, etc live editions.

If you did a search you would find the answer to this. Please also read
the first link in my signature.
And then look through the results, below:
Debian Testing/9/Stretch Live image

It took me about 60 seconds to do what you should have done
first for you, and your welcome.

Not really completey invalid,
Your subject title "Debian Testing/9/Stretch Live image "
Is misleading, I thought you were also looking for Debian Testing images,
and there are many available, including some live images.

but what ever,...
Debian 9 stretch has not been released,
so there is no "Live images", for that.
Like you say,
The short answer is no, there are no Images available for Debian 9
(stretch), because it does not exist.
The long answer, is yes, there are various "Testing" and "Sid' images,..

But there are Live images that include "sid" (Still In Developement"
Image
This is a older one I made, for a Live USB,...
In this link I posted : http://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimage/
Alpha/Beta/Release Candidate builds of Debian Installer for Stretch
Alpha 8 is most recent - a full set of installer images for all architectures
Regular builds of testing / (what will be Stretch)
Daily builds of installer images for all architectures (small CDs only)
Weekly builds of installer images for all architectures (some CDs, full sets of DVDs and BDs)
Weekly builds of live images for i386 and amd64
Weekly builds of openstack images for amd64
I do not keep up with the "daily" builds, nor the weekly,...but there are
"live" builds, with "testing" or SID" as the installer,..These are mostly used
by people involved in the development of what wil be Stretch,(Debian 9)
but since
Debian Stretch, is "Still In Developement", it is "sid" (SID)
Part of doing searches involves reading what is in the results carefully,....
At the time , this post was made, http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=128169
Postby GarryRicketson » 2016-04-30 06:03 I don't think so.
Is it possible to download a live iso for Debian Stretch?

Looks like they are thinking about it, and maybe there will be.
In the near future, live DVDs will be built for stretch (the current Debian testing distribution) although these are not currently available.
At that time "2016-04-30 06:03 "
There were plans to maybe start making some,...and based on my searches,
it appears they have,
EDIT: I ask for Gnome, KDE, Xfce, etc live editions.
I did not see this before, and to be honest I did not check to see what
DE's are available in the beta images, If none of them are what you
want, and you did some searches, valid ones, and can not find exactly what
you are looking for,.... well I guess that means what you are looking is not
available.
There are images, with Gnome, KDE, Xfce, on them available in the link I posted,
Again , pay attention what it says here,
Alpha/Beta/Release Candidate builds of Debian Installer for Stretch

Alpha 8 is most recent - a full set of installer images for all architectures

Regular builds of testing / (what will be Stretch)

Daily builds of installer images for all architectures (small CDs only)
What you see , all say Debian 8.2, and yes in that aspect you will not find anything
labeled Debian 9, no matter how hard you search, it does not yet exist,..it is S.I.D.
(still in developement)
There also are these :

If you knew how to "use searching", why didn't you do that ?
This is the problem when we try to do what the OP should have done, all to often
the results are not what they are looking for, so please , next time, just do your own searches,.. So anyway, I hope some of the information is use full to some body,..I am sorry it was of no use to the OP, and they consider it "invalid",.... but any way,
nice that the OP says "thank you",
and you are welcome,

Oh sorry really. Most fun thing that i am not like when OP dont use searching and create similar threads, but i really searched and didnt noticed this only one useful link on main Debian forums. Thats also a little Debian problem :) Sometimes its hard to find something for Debian that you want. But this is not because it badly organized, this just because Debian is a huge. I interested and used Linux from 2007 and Debian/Ubuntu is my main distros all the time. I did many installations from non-live images testing branches, but i really always dream about live testing images with desktop environment included, like Ubuntu distro have. Reason is simple: when i havent enough time or i am not sure about working hardware/drivers i want just quickly test and install live version of Debian.

Thank you a lot for explanation really. I understand reason to make SID branches live images only for developers, but my goal is to get and quickly install Debian testing version as main daily usage desktop OS on machines, instead of stable Ubuntu. This a little bit sad that not possible to do that. There no need to do every new daily live build like Ubuntu do, just once every six months do live images with testing branches will be enough to have fresh kernel and fresh packages.

Yes, i found this http://cdimage.debian.org/mirror/cdimag ... 4/webboot/ a long time ago, but this looks abandomed and this is 8 version brancha

Wow. A new low in information/word count ratio. Finding even one nugget of factually correct information in this thread is quite a challenge.

Just a few highlights, in no particular order:

- Debian does not do "beta" releases, nor does it do "alpha" releases. Any "alpha|beta" references are to the installer, not the OS. The Wiki has details on Debian's release model.

- Stretch is not sid; Testing is not sid. (Again, read the *^$^@ Wiki)

- There is no such thing as "Debian 9" and there won't be for many months to come.

- No, there are no live images of Debian Testing.

- Testing is not even remotely suitable for daily use by someone like this OP, who needs/wants hand-holding and spoonfeeding for even simple questions.

- Among their many other limitations, Debian "live" images don't support UEFI, further compromising their utility/value (merely my impression; not QFT)

Thank you again @GarryRicketson and @dasein.

Especially for this:
dasein wrote:- Testing is not even remotely suitable for daily use
It took me a while to understand this correct. Because there so much misinformation in internet and 3rd party sites. People like to say how old and useless Debian Stable and recommend to use Testing branch... Sad that i am just now start reading this official forums.

I installed now Debian Stable and very happy with it.

// And sorry for my Eng grammar.
