Testing Stretch9-RC2

#1 Post by snowdust »

Earlier this week, I downloaded Stretch9-RC2 ... see this link:

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unoff ... 64/iso-cd/

I would like to report the following issues to the dev team:

1) First, installed on an Acer MBR-only motherboard and selected the MATE desktop. Once installation completed, I installed the Slimjet browser and had no issue with Flash and was able to play videos.

2) Secondly, since the CD is a NET install, I proceeded with the installation on an Asus UEFI-ready motherboard and selected the GNOME desktop. Once installation completed, I installed the Slimjet browser and could not play videos due to lack of Flash player. I launched the native Firefox browser and faced the same issue. Then, I installed Chromium and Vivaldi and had no luck with either browser.

3) Thirdly, thought I would test the MATE desktop on the Asus UEFI-ready mobo and dual-boot with the Gnome installation. Alas, Flash issues still persisted.

So, my question is: why do I encounter issues with browsers/no Flash on UEFI installations while I am able to play videos on the MBR installation?

I searched for 'slimjet' in the debian repo and got nothing, so my guess would be that you enabled a foreign repo, and installed flash on the former install, but not on the latter ones?

There are a lot of threads on here about flash issues, so maybe searching the forum will help, or trying the wiki.

Slimjet just has Deb's for download, not a repo. It also bundles pepperflash in the deb.

Exactly ... https://www.slimjet.com/en/dlpage.php

I installed Zorin12 (UEFI) and triple-boot with Debian9-RC2 Mate & Gnome. Slimjet + Vivaldi + Firefox + Chrome & Chromium all play videos with no issue.
