It's possible that Secure Boot support could be introduced at some point in stretch's lifetime.

For a newbie like me what does it mean? Is that something I should care about?

What is secure boot, and UEFI, how does it affect Linux

In a nut shell, it is one of those "new features", Microsoft had a lot to do with it,
They do not like the idea of people being able to install another OS , so they came up with the "feature", and any new PC, that shipped with windows, has this new feature,
it makes it harder to remove the MS malware , and install a reliable "clean" system.
It is not all that new, they have been using it for a couple or more years now.
None of my hardware has it, so to me it does not matter,..but also it is getting harder
to find hardware that does not have the "feature".
All though Microsoft did not want to , there were legal issues, and so it is required that
there is a way to disable the "feature",..so there are ways to disbale it, and one can still install the OS they choose to, at least at this time,..who knows what the furure will be ?
Probably though, it would be more reliable to do your own searches, read up on the history of it, etc,...

then you decide for yourself if you need to care about it or not .
In this thread : http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php? ... 51#p641780
It sounded like they would be supporting it, and had gotten sigantures/permission
from Microsoft, but I guess that has changed. For me it is a non-issue, my hardware
does not have the "feature", and it is no problem installing any OS I choose.
None of my laptops and desktop pc have any kind of MS windows, or products on them. I do not use their products.

Thanks for you explanation GarryRicketson. If I've understood right, it looks like I shouldn't worry about at least by now, since I don't buy any Pc with any O.S. preinstalled. Anyway, I guess there will be always a way to unable that feature or there should be.

Your welcome, for people with new equipment, and windows pre-installed, it is a
inconvience, I have kind of delibrately avoided the newest equipment for this reason, and so far have not really had to deal with it. The forum is full of threads
on how to get around the thing.
From the OP's link,..:
At a recent team meeting, we decided that support for Secure Boot
in the forthcoming Debian 9 "stretch" would no longer be a blocker
to release. The likely, although not certain outcome is that stretch
will not have Secure Boot support.

We appreciate that this will be a disappointment to many users and
developers. However, we need to balance that with the limited time
available for the volunteer teams working on this feature, and the
risk of bugs being introduced through rushed development.
Like they say, it will not be a "blocker", that is to say user will be able to install and
use it,... The dissapointment will be for those that want something easier to install,
etc. and those that want the feature "secure boot". ( I think)
