ASUS/nvidia/4GB psychedelic X, help w/kernel hack

Hi, I'm glad to see that people are getting their ASUS laptops with nvidia and 4GB of RAM to work. Please help me to do the same, I have an ASUS A8Sc-B1 with an 8400M graphic card and 4GB RAM. I'm getting this error

when I boot. When I try to start X with the nvidia driver (169.09 of 169.07-2) I get the psychedelic login screen (works o.k. with vesa). I've seen posts

about the kernel hack to fix this. But, I don't know how to do the hack. I understand the "diff" command, and I guess that I remove "-" lines and add "+" lines. But, I'd like to know what I'm doing. Can someone provide some detail on how to do this? I'm currently running debian 2.6.24 (x86_64).
