Our very own MeanDean has a good set of instructions on making a debian LiveCD, Here.

Well a boot splash screen IMO is a waste of time since the bootsplash project ended so I do not know how to sort that out. As to the other stuff, I just set them up in xnest the way I wanted things before making the LiveCD.

You may have to read through the whole of deans post, but I think your queries are answered in there.

Cheers

If you want to change the actual installer itself you will probably need to hack the source. Not sure if you can somehow modify it using live-helper. You should probably ask on the live-helper mailing list though to get a accurate answer.

You may also want to consider using a different installer although I haven't found one that works without tweaks/mods.

Good catch! I assumed he was talking about the installer itself.

Now THAT screen is easy to change....

That's an old screen, the new Lennny installer (and also EtchnHalf) has an updated screen with more options that you can navigate with arrow keys like advanced (expert, expertgui etc) and a couple of others. Otherwise, the wallpaper remains the same.
