apt-get and fakechroot - Any one seeing failures.

Postby sarvi » 2008-10-09 04:01

Hi,
After quite a bit if trouble understanding the inconsistencies of fakechroot I am able to debootstrap a debian chroot.

Within that chroot, dpkg and aptitude works. But apt-get install does not work.

I did an strace on the operation and I found it invokes a statvfs system call which does not seem to map the /var/cache... file name its is passing as parameter to the full real path.

It looks like the statvfs is not faked in fakechroot.

My question? If this is the case, I would expect most other people to be seeing this problem as well. Is anyone seeing it.

If this is not the right forum to discuss fakechroot and please do point me to the right one, as I would understand this problem and fix it.

Thanks,
Sarvi
