Lenny install suggestions

I just installed the 2/2/2009 DI-rc2-amd64 cd version. I have 2 nVidia 9500 gt cards
after the install it booted to a black screen. ctrl-alt-f1 did nothing,
so i booted it to safe mode.

xorg.conf did not have any driver in the device section, so i added a driver "vesa" line

that fixed it on a reboot.

i'd suggest that if no driver is written, default to writing a driver "vesa" line

my other suggestion is to offer a "boot from hard disk" option on the cd in case someone leaves it in the machine by mistake, or has a drive that has trouble.

thanks

bobc
if i put this suggestion in the wrong place or did something else wrong by saying something, i'm sorry in advance, and feel free to tell me where to find what i should have said or done instead. the problem wasn't a big problem for me, but maybe for someone else it would be a bigger issue.

The newest Xorg versions autodetect - the trouble you had was a known bug in all FOSS nVidida drivers.

Good to hear that, as it did hit the same problem on my old dual P3 which had a legacy nVidia card in it.

ALL 4 SCREENS WORKING in Lenny. Only 1 try needed!

Even better...

The JRE 1.5.16 worked, and instead of *ME* having to install 50 packages trying to find one with the codec I need, it automagically went and found one that would work, and all I had to do was check it and click install, and the videos played.

3 CHEERS!!!
