GnuCash 2.4.4 in Squeeze Backports - Major Bug(?)

#1 Post by Digger1 »

Hello,

I'm wondering where to go with this:

I'm a fairly recent Linux convert and am currently in the process of moving the accounting data for my small business from QuickBooks Pro (Windows platform) to GnuCash. As I'm a Squeeze user, I initially loaded GnuCash from the Squeeze repo (version 2.2.9-10). After some research, I decided that version 2.4.4 would work better for my business, since 2.4.4 offers easily customized invoices. So, I subsequently upgraded my GnuCash to version 2.4.4, from the Squeeze backports repo.

During the process of populating the various accounts with my data, I came across what has been identified as a bug. See the following thread:

http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/Cr ... 27104.html

FYI, the bug is identified in the Feb 28, 2012; 11:16pm post by John Ralls-2. Essentially, GnuCash 2.4.4 crashes when I try to assign a tax category to an account.

As this is pretty much a show-stopper for me, I'm wondering what would be the best course of action.

Do I file a bug report?

Do I highlight the problem to Debian developers in the hopes that we could get GnuCash version 2.4.3 or 2.4.5 into the backports repo? How would I go about doing this?

I'm pretty much at a standstill for now with my accounting program, as the wheels of commerce grind on!

TIA!

Just as a point of information, the latest version that I was able to backport to Squeeze was 2.4.6. After that, lots of backports to base gtk libraries would have been required.

I would:

1. File a bug report
2. Backport yourself or install the 2.4.6 version in the MEPIS community repo to see if that has fixed the bug.
3. If so, really agitate to get that into squeeze-backports.

Thanks, Steve, for your inputs!

I'm switching the current discussion to this thread.

I think I ran into this issue when helping someone with gnucash...

I have 2.4.7 debs of gnucash and gnucash-common that should install nice and neat without anything else being upgraded. Let me know if you are interested and I will double-check to be sure they install cleanly before putting them online somewhere.

Oh and if you want to let someone know about this then you should post to the debian backports list rather than filing a bug on the debian bug tracking system.

ad,

Thanks for your help. If I decide to use your 2.4.7 deb, I'll let you know. Thanks for the heads-up on the backports mailing list. I think I'll bring the issue up there.
