[solve] network manager wifi bugg on wheezy

#1 Post by uBaLd »

Hi

With update I got a bug on the wifi on wheezy! I thought it would solve it self with other update but it is not the case ! Mi wifi is down since a week or to ! abd I cant figure ought how to solve this ! The wird thing is that i cant ping the machine from an other computer but doing a nmap work from an other machine on the problematic computer on the local network "192.168.0.201".

When I am connected to both the wire and the wifi I can ping the router but only if the wire connection as been connected first. If I disconnect the wire the network become unreachable until I disconnect the wifi and reconnect the wire. Thank you for reading and for your help !

Thank you for the help ! :? Please ask if you need other info.

So the bugg is that I can't ping anything nor go on the web with the wifi using NM but the wire connection work!
I change the HWaddr address for the post but it is the wright one !

Code: Select all

$ ifconfig wlan0

Re: network manager wifi bugg on wheezy [solve for wpa2]

#2 Post by uBaLd »

Ok it work again for the wpa2 but the wep protocol give me the behaviour describe previously. I may precise that I use the manual method for connection and not automatic DHCP.

any way it work for wpa2 now. :D

thank you for reading.

From reading your posts I think that you are familiar and capable with Linux. In your case I would suggest that you consider removing Network-Manager and using wpa_supplicant directly. Here are some links to read.

http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/wi-fi-command-line
http://wirelessdefence.org/Contents/Lin ... mmands.htm

If you have a desktop that never moves all you need is to add the following to /etc/network/interfaces.

Code: Select all

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
        wireless-essid [ESSID]
        wireless-mode [MODE]
Think about it and keep us posted.

Thank you Bulkley for the nice reply and all those link. The first one seam particularly great. If I get an other break I will now how to do.

For now, since it solve itself with the update I will use NM.

Take your time. It can take a while to figure it out. On my laptop I use the method from here https://xrunhprof.wordpress.com/2009/09 ... on-debian/. It works a treat. Connections are faster than with Network-Manager and they never drop.
